Segment: Compact CUV
Drivetrain option(s): AWD
Powertrain(s): Gasoline, Hybrid
The 2019 Crosstrek Hybrid gets exterior and interior design flourishes to distinguish it from its gasoline-powered stablemate. The all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid will also be the nameplate's most powerful and fuel-efficient variant, Subaru says. The drivetrain pairs a 2.0-liter direct-injection boxer engine and new continuously variable transmission with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. The 148-hp setup achieves an electric-only driving range of 17 miles and speeds up to 65 mph in full electric mode. The Crosstrek Hybrid will start at $35,970, including shipping, and is set to arrive at U.S. dealers by year's end.
The regular 2019 Crosstrek, on sale now, received few changes. EyeSight is available on the base trim with a CVT and is standard on the Limited trim. A freshening is likely in 2021.
